Assimilation, why what and whocares
To assimilate is to take on characteristics of a surrounding species, often referred to happening among plants or this case humans. Beneatha often tries to assimilate in the play by straightening her hair to look more "white", this shows her as weak because she does not have the strength to embrace her black heritage. I see people trying to assimilate to show that they are "cool" or "hip" and so people would like them, I have tried to assimilate but I like the way I am, I love my music and my life just the way it is and would love to stay me and not try to be someone else. I would have to agree with Eric Liu's veiw on assimilation because he believes it is inevitable and it happens in such small doses it is practically impossible to realize it is happening, that is unless you are trying to assimilate.

DeleteI think that assimilation is inevetable, and in one way or another its bound to happen, especially if you are not born in this country (ME!)
